Hendricks Becomes First JCSU Athletics Administrator to Garner Top Award

May 29, 2007

Dr. Denisha L. Hendricks has been named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) of the Year as selected by the league's SWA's. Hendricks made a name for herself as she coordinated the CIAA's Annual Basketball Tournament Community Service project for the past two years. She is currently attending the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Females and will graduate in June.

Hendricks joined the JCSU family in 2005 as the SWA and Coordinator of the Health and Human Performance department. She recently added the title of assistant athletics director for internal operations. Hendricks holds a B.S. degree in physical education/athletic training from the University of South Carolina. She earned a master's and doctoral degree in higher education administration from Auburn University in 2001 and 2004. In fact, Hendricks was the first African-American female to earn a master's degree in higher education administration and the youngest person to earn a doctorate degree in higher education administration at the tender age of 25.

The Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) is an institutional position legislated by the NCAA. The role of the SWA is to partner with the Athletic Director to assist the President or Chancellor in the development of the total student-athlete, while directly reflecting the mission of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
