The JCSU family is saddened to learn of the passing of Claude Saunders. Saunders graduated from JCSU in 1955 and was the first All-CIAA basketball player at JCSU.

Saunders was a retired CIAA official and was inducted into the CIAA Officials Hall of Fame in 2000. He still worked as a neutral official for the CIAA and served as the clock operator for the NFL's Carolina Panthers.

He died June 1, 2008 at the age of 74. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are pending at Costner Funeral Home.
