Green Wins Two Events at CIAA Indoor Championships

Freshman Leford Green won the CIAA Indoor title in the 200m and 400m at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at Christopher Newport University. Green's time of 21.72 automatically qualified him for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.

The 4x400m team of Alberto DeCosta, Leford Green, Demetrius Hawkins and John Rosemond won the bronze medal with a run of 3:25.43. Coleman McNeil, Ty Jordan and Leford Green scoring in their individual events.

Coleman McNeil's throw of 12.84m in the shot put was his season best and propelled him to the third place finish. Ty Jordan placed sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.88m. Julius Wright and John Rosemond finished eighth and ninth respectively with jumps of 1.88m and 1.78m.

On the women's side, Shermaine Williams ran the fastest time in the preliminary round of the 60 meter hurdles but could not finish in the finals due to some cramping. Williams did place in the 400 m dash with a time of 59.84 seconds. China McRae finished 10th overall in the shot put with a throw of 6.94m.

JCSU will look ahead toward the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 22-23, 2008 in Blacksburg, Va.
