The Johnson C. Smith University women's track and field team took part in the Carolina Chick-Fil-A Invitational held on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill on Saturday. Lady Golden Bull Shermaine Williams led the way with a first-place finish in the women's 60m hurdles turning in a time of 8.43 seconds in the finals of the event. She beat out runners from Division I schools such as William and Mary, Chapel Hill, Appalachian State, High Point, and Virginia Commonwealth to name a few. She had her best time in the preliminaries of the event running an 8.40. Her time of 8.43 provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in March. In the 60m dash, fellow Lady Golden Bulls, Lakaevia Tyler, Jesseca Gray, and Antoinette Lewis finished with times of 8.29, 8.80, and 9.86. In the 200m dash, Lael Clark ran a 27.62. Both the men's and women's teams will not rest long, however, as the squads will take part in the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Virginia next weekend, Feb 22-23. |
