Track & FieldJCSU Shines at 2008 Raleigh Relays

The Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's track and field team got strong showings from its group of sprinters to post a top-3 finish in the sprint relays. In addition, JCSU placed a pair of second place finishes in the women's 100m hurdles and in the men's 400m. Shermaine Williams automatically qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships in May churning in a time of 13.87 in the 100m hurdles. She was narrowly edged by Michigan State's Jackie Walton (13.86). Leford Green finished second in the 400m (45.56) to pace the distance runners on the final day. Green's mark was the top collegiate run in the event and also automatically qualifies him for the upcoming National Championships. The 4x400 relay team of (Alberto DeCosta, Leford Green, Demetrius Hawkins, and John Rosemond) finished third with a time of 3.17.61. The quad knocked off a full two seconds from their mark last week at the 49er invitational (3.19.30). The field events were led bv Ty Jordan's 16th place finish in the high jump (1.90m). Jordan finished second last week at the 49er Invitational. Julius Wright placed 19th in the javlein with a throw of 41.74m. JCSU moves on to the Duke Invitational on April 5 in Durham, N.C. |
