Johnson C. Smith Track and Field Place 5th at CIAA Championships

Final Stats

The Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's track and field teams finished fifth at the CIAA Championships held on the campus of Virginia State University. Coleman McNeil repeated as the men's javelin champion while Shermaine Williams claimed her first crown in the 100 meter hurdles.

Williams churned in a time of 13.85 seconds to claim the 100 meter hurdle title and claim All-CIAA honors. She also finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.21 seconds. Nikki Boston reached the finals in two events and placed in both. She finished sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.86) and seventh in hte 100 meter hurdles (16.13).

In the women's field events, Brittany Bullock placed secenth in the discus with a throw of 22.11 meters. Amire Harvin and Jasamine Hill both earned points for their team finishing 8th in the shot put and discus respectively.

The men's team was definitely led by the efforts of Coleman McNeil. McNeil reclaimed his title as CIAA Men's Javelin Champion with a throw of 47.84 meters. Johnson C. Smith also claimed the third and fourth places in that event with Ty Jordan's third place distance of 44.31 meters and Julius Wrights' 43.04. John Rosemond placed seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.98 meters.

McNeil also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 13.07 meters and a sixth place finish in the discus (35.69). In all, McNeil accounted for 19 of the team's 43 points. For his efforts, McNeil was named All-CIAA in the javelin and shot put.

Leford Green continued to shine in the track events, placing third in the 400 meters (47.15), garnering All-CIAA honors. His 4x400 relay team finished 4th with a time of 3:23.40.
