Track & FieldJCSU's Green Finishes Second in 200m dash at Tar Heel Invitational
Jan. 13, 2008
For the first time in nearly six years, Johnson C. Smith University participated in an indoor track and field meet. Head men's and women's track and field coach Lennox Graham knew in order to put together a quality track program, his teams would have to participate in indoors. Graham took his team to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take part in the Joe Hilton Tar Heel Invitational held on January 12, 2008. Newcomer Leford Green (Jamaica, West Indies) finished second in the 200m dash and fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 22.05 and 48.94 respectively. Despite winning his heat in the preliminary round with a time of 21.80 in the 200m dash, Green fell just short of the eventual champion Charles Cox representing host UNC-Chapel Hill. In all, JCSU men and women participated in 10 events to include: the women's 60 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 60 meter hurdles and shot put. The men participated in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, high jump, and shot put. The Bulls will now travel to Clemson, S.C. to take part in the Clemson Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 18-19, 2008. |
