Johnson C. Smith University (1-0) began their season the way it was supposed to end...playing Lincoln University (Pa.). The Golden Bulls opened up their season three days sooner than expected by participating in the Carolina Ford Dealers Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Fayetteville State University. JCSU filled in a last minute spot for St. Augustine's College who pulled out unexpectedly. The Bulls won in thrilling fashion, smashing the Lions (0-2) 91-52.

Senior Maurice Hooper (Reidsville, N.C.) became the 20th member of the Golden Bulls 1,000 Point Club. His milestone came on a free throw with 16:34 seconds in the first half. He would go on to score 9 more points in the first stanza en route to 15 first half points (19 total).

Led by the efforts of Hooper, the gold and blue were able to hold Lincoln to a dismal 25% from the field. Hooper's 19 points were tops among all scorers this afternoon.

Freshman Ronald Thornhill (Lawrenceville, Va.) had 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, three of his baskets came from beyond the arc. David Sanders (Buffalo, N.Y.) had his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Jerry Hollis (Charlotte, N.C.) fell one point and one rebound shy of a double-double. He contributed nine points, nine rebounds, and four blocks in the victory.

Lincoln was paced by Jermaine Russell who recorded 18 points, four boards, and four blocks. Dante Blanton and Dominic Washington added 10 points each in the loss.
