Final Stats

Three of Augusta State University's five starters scored in double figures to lead the Jaguars to a 93-70 win over the visiting Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University (2-1). The Jaguars, ranked at number six by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) are undefeated against the Golden Bulls since head coach Dip Metress took over the program in 2004.

The first half was all Augusta State (3-0) shooting 60% from the field and going up by as many as 30 points in the first stanza. The Jaguars' Ben Madgen and Garret Siler were already in double figures (12 and 13 points) by the end of the first 20 minutes of play. JCSU managed just 18 points on 8-of-31 shooting to go into the locker room down 48-18.

JCSU head coach Steve Joyner, Sr. must have given an exceptional speech during the intermission as the Bulls shot a season high 70% from the field in the second half. Maurice Hooper was a perfect 7-of-7 (3-of-3 from beyond the arc) in just seven minutes of play, while James Dillard was 4-of-5, 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Hooper and Dillard had just two points each coming into the second half. Unfortunately, their efforts were not enough to hold off the red-hot Jaguars en route to the 23 point deficit.

The Golden Bulls were led by Hooper who scored 20 points followed by Dillard's 17 points and seven rebounds.

Garret Siler led the way for the Jaguars with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks. Tyrekus Bowman and Ben Madgen had 16 and 15 points respectively in the win.

JCSU will look to rebound on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, as they enter their first conference match-up of the season against Elizabeth City State University. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the R.L. Vaughan Center in Elizabeth City, N.C.
