Dec. 17, 2007

Three members of the Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team have received CIAA weekly honors as announced by the conference office.

Sophomore forward Jerry Hollis (Charlotte, N.C.) has been tabbed as the CIAA Player of the Week. In the Golden Bulls' 90-81 win over Elizabeth City State University, defending CIAA Champion, Hollis scored a season high 17 points, 12 rebounds, dished out five assists, collected three steals and blocked two shots. He averaged a double-double on the week of 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Rookie Ronald Thornhill (Alberta, Va.) garnered his first CIAA Rookie of the Week honors since putting on a Golden Bull uniform just 6 weeks ago. Thornhill had an outstanding outing vs. Shaw University. The freshman was nearly perfect from the field connecting on 5-of-6 shots; all from beyond the arc. He finished with 15 points while also dishing out four assists.

JCSU head coach Steve Joyner, Sr. has been named CIAA Coach of the Week after guiding the Golden Bulls to two wins over Shaw University and Elizabeth City State University. The win over ECSU avenged a 69-61 loss at ECSU in the first meeting on November 27.

JCSU will be back in action on Monday December 17, when they host the Indians of Catawba College. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Brayboy Gym.
