Final Stats

Johnson C. Smith University (1-4, 0-2 CIAA) fell to Saint Paul's College 24-9 in football action. The Tigers (3-2, 1-1 CIAA) used a balanced attack to keep JCSU winless in conference play.

The Tigers scored on all three phases of the game, offense, defense and special teams en route to the 24-9 victory. The Tiger defense had an interception that turned into a fumble returned for a touchdown, two offensive touchdowns and a field goal.

JCSU was held scoreless until early in the fourth quarter when Corey Burnett sacked Micah Brown for a safety. Four plays later, Smith forced a SPC punt, but the snap went sailing over Marlon Buchanan's head. Lawyer Montgomery chased him down and was able to bring Buchanan down on the Tiger 15-yard line. Kevin Hall easily toted the ball four yards into the endzone for the only Golden Bull touchdown of the day.

Rookie Darius Johnson led all defenders again with 12 total tackles, one for a loss of a yard. Burnett had three solo tackles, two for a loss of six yards and sack for a loss of five yards.

JCSU will have a two-game home stand beginning with Livingstone College on Saturday, October 4. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Irwin Belk Complex.
