Final Stats

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The story has been the same all season long...stop the run. Johnson C. Smith University (2-5, 1-3 CIAA) couldn't do what the Golden Bulls intended, falling to CIAA rival Saint Paul's College (2-5, 2-2 CIAA) 23-13. Craig Mangrum led a stellar Tiger ground attack churning out 143 yards on 19 carries.

Saint Paul's scored twice in the first half, both on three-yard runs by two different running backs. Andrew Barlow scored in the first quarter and then Dante Chestnut in the second quarter.

The second half, JCSU came out firing, scoring twice. The first on a two-yard pass from Carlton Richardson to Joshua Smith and then again on a two-yard run from Kevin Allen. Both touchdowns were aided by 71-yard and 59-yard kick-off returns by De'Audra Dix.

Saint Paul's used eight different running backs totaling 279 yards on the ground and accounting for all three touchdowns.

Other than not being able to stop the run, the defense played rather well. They forced two fumbles, and blocked a punt. Fred Williams led all defenders registering a game-high and career-tying 15 total tackles. However, his efforts would fall short of the victory.

JCSU now looks ahead to the contest against Virginia State University next Saturday, October 20, 2007. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Irwin Belk Complex.
