JCSU Releases 2007 Football Schedule

Head Coach Daryl McNeill Returns to lead the Golden Bull football program in 2007

March 6, 2007

The Johnson C. Smith University Athletics Department released the 2007 Golden Bull football schedule on Tuesday morning. The 10-game slate is highlighted by two championship subdivision opponents.

The Golden Bulls will play a full compliment of Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games with only three non-conference opponents gracing the schedule in Edward Waters College (August 25, 2007), as well as championship subdivision opponents Savannah State University (September 8, 2007) and Charleston Southern University (September 15, 2007). Charleston Southern posted a 9-2 record last year and were Big South champions in 2005.

The 2007 season begins on Saturday, August 25, 2007 vs. Edward Waters at the Irwin Belk Complex. The Golden Bulls then play their next four games on the road, where they went 5-1 in 2006.

JCSU will play seven CIAA contests highlighted by four consecutive home games in the month of October. Virginia Union University will make their way to Charlotte on October 6 followed by St. Paul's College (10/13). Eastern division opponent Virginia State University rotates back onto the Golden Bull football slate for the first time since the 2001 season on October 20.

Rounding out the home schedule will be the Broncos of Fayetteville State University on October 27, 2007 for Homecoming.

Golden Bull fans will benefit from five road games that will be played within easy driving distance from Charlotte, NC as JCSU will face Savannah State University in Savannah, GA; Charleston Southern University in Charleston, SC; St. Augustine's College and Shaw University both in Raleigh, NC; and Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC during the 2007 season.

McNeill led the team to a 7-4 record in 2006 and a berth in the Pioneer Bowl

"We are very excited about the 2007 football season," remarked head football coach Daryl C. McNeill, Sr. "We are playing a challenging schedule as always, but one we believe we can have success with. The CIAA will be more balanced than ever. It will be a battle every week."

JCSU finished the 2006 season 7-4 (4-3 CIAA) and ranked 10th in the Black College Sports Page Football Poll. The seven wins tied the most wins in the last decade since a 7-3 performance in 1996. JCSU also earned a berth to the Pioneer Bowl, the school's first bowl appearance since 1941.
