The Last Meeting…The story has been the same all season long...stop the run. Johnson C. Smith University (2-5, 1-3 CIAA) couldn’t do what the Golden Bulls intended, falling to CIAA rival Saint Paul’s College (2-5, 2-2 CIAA) 23-13. Craig Mangrum led a stellar Tiger ground attack churning out 143 yards on 19 carries.
Saint Paul’s scored twice in the first half, both on three-yard runs by two different running backs. Andrew Barlow scored in the first quarter and then Dante Chestnut in the second quarter.
The second half, JCSU came out firing, scoring twice. The first on a two-yard pass from Carlton Richardson to Joshua Smith and then again on a two-yard run from Kevin Allen. Both touchdowns were aided by 71-yard and 59-yard kick-off returns by De’Audra Dix.
Scoring Streak...JCSU has scored in 38 consecutive games dating back to a 56-0 shutout by Wofford in Spartanburg, in 2004.

QUICK NOTES •Both teams are looking for their first conference win of the season. Though SPC’s record is 2-2, both their wins came against non-conference opponents.
• Freshman Darius Johnson was named the Western Virginia Education Classic’s defensive most valuable player after leading all defenders with 13 total tackles, one tackle for a loss of 4 yards, one forced fumble and on pass break-up.
A Look Ahead...Johnson C. Smith will return to their home crowd as they take on cross-town rival Livingstone College.
New Game Location...Johnson C. Smith University will take on Saint Paul’s at Cameron Field in Petersburg, Virginia. Cameron Field is home to the East Coast Bowl where JCSU has had a few players participate.
Road Worries...One week after a thrilling win at home over Edward Waters in overtime, the Golden Bulls fell to Virginia Union 42-14. The Bulls aer 0-3 this season away from the friendly confines of the Irwin Belk Complex.
HALL of an Effort…With Archie Barrow just returning off an injury and Kevin Allen out for a couple weeks, junior Kevin Hall was able to make up for lost talent. The transfer had 19 carries for 91 yards but more importantly, the only two touchdowns against Virginia Union.
Just for Kicks or Punts...Sophomore placekicker Julius Wright has had to double up on duties since the departure of the former punter. Wright has stepped up to the challenge and now leads the conference in punting, averaging 42.1 yards per punt. He has just 14 punts for an astonishing 589 yards.
Johnson is a Perfect Replacement…True freshman Darius Johnson (Atlanta, Ga.) has made the most of his first career starts in the last two games ,especially since lockdown safety Steven Williams went down for the season. After fighting through hamstring injuries all camp, Darius is coming back in rare form. He is second on the team in tackles with 27 (14 solo, 13 assisted), two for a loss of 5 yards, one interception, one pass break-up, and one forced fumble.
Franklin Keeps on Catching...Jeremy Franklin enters the VUU game having caught at least one pass in 14 consecutive games, which happens to be every game he has played in his collegiate career. The redshirt sophomore has 1,153 career yards and 10 touchdowns in his young career.
