Head Coach Daryl C. McNeill announced the addition of one full time and six part-time coaches to his football staff for the 2006 season. Anthony Buchanan as Defensive Line Coach/Football Operations, Jonathan Brewer as Wide Receivers Coach, Quentarus Brown as Running backs Coach, Clement Gibbs as Strength and Conditioning Coach, Jonathan "Wayne" Kelly as Special Teams/Asst. Defensive Backs Coach, Jason Mai as Quarterbacks Coach, and Antonio Mauney as Defensive Backs Coach. He also announced the promotion of Eric Puryear from Defensive Backs Coach to Defensive Coordinator.

"I'm very excited about the recent changes within our coaching staff and what it means for the future of our football team," remarked McNeill. "We are proud to have these guys on board."

Buchanan comes to JCSU from Tennessee Technical University. He replaces Rodrick Robinson in a full-time capacity, who left for a similar position at Cheyney State University. He joined the TTU coaching staff in 2004 to work with the Golden Eagle tight ends. Prior to Tennessee Tech, Buchanan worked at Scottsdale Community College, where he worked for one season coaching tight ends and serving as the recruiting coordinator for the ArtichokesBuchanan started his coaching career at his alma mater, Wingate University, during the spring of 1999 working with the defensive line and special teams. He was at Wingate through the spring of 2001. He handled multiple duties there, including recruiting for North Carolina, South Carolina and north Georgia.

While an undergraduate at Wingate, Buchanan was a two-year starter as defensive tackle/rush end. Prior to that, his playing days were for Phoenix College from 1995 through 1997, where he was third on the team in quarterback sacks. Originally from Seattle, Wash., he received his bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies in 2000 from Wingate with a minor in Criminal Justice.

After losing his defensive coordinator late last fall, Coach McNeill decided to promote Eric Puryear, Sr. who served as the defensive backs coach last fall. "Coach Puryear is a great defensive coach and was an easy choice to fill this position," said McNeill. "I know he will do an excellent job with our defense."
