JCSU Releases Football Coach

Daryl C. McNeill, Sr. was released by the university after four seasons

Nov. 6, 2008

Johnson C. Smith University President Ronald L. Carter, Ph.D. and JCSU Athletics Director Steve Joyner Sr. announced this evening that Coach Daryl McNeill will no longer serve as the university's football coach effective immediately.

McNeill was the university's 14th head football coach. He also served in a dual role as the associate athletics director. McNeill recently completed his fourth season with a 3-7 record and 2-5 CIAA conference record. He assumed the head coaching position in December 2004, which was the second time he served in that capacity with the university. He previously served as head football coach during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. The university will begin a search for his replacement immediately. Personnel decisions will be left to the discretion of the new coach.
