FootballJCSU Football Moves Up Two Notches in Regional Rankings, McNeill and Dix Garner Weekly Conference Honors
Oct. 30, 2006 After their 27-6 victory over Division I-AA opponent Savannah State University, the Johnson C. Smith University football team, under the direction of second year head coach Daryl C. McNeill, has moved up two notches in the regional rankings. Last week, the Golden Bulls were ranked at #12, this week the gold and blue have moved up to the number 10 spot. In addition, McNeill was named CIAA Coach of the Week and junior cornerback/special teams player De'Audra Dix was named Special Teams Player of the Week. McNeill guided his team to a Homecoming victory over the visiting Tigers of Savannah State University, giving JCSU the most wins in a season (7) since he was the coach in 1996. This is the first time in the history of the school that JCSU has been victorious over Savannah State and the university's first Homecoming win since 2003. Dix had two kick-off returns for 92 yards. His longest was a 74-yard return for a touchdown, this third return for a score of the 2006 season. The Bulls will travel to Durham, NC this Saturday to take on the undefeated Eagles of North Carolina Central University. Kick-off is for 1:30 pm at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium.
