Five Golden Bulls were recently named to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Football All-Conference team as voted on by the league's football coaches and sports information directors. Herbert Collins,III, De'Audra Dix, Jeremy Franklin, Ralph Manns, Jr., and Fred Williams were all named to the ALL-CIAA first team.
Collins, (Clinton, Md.) becomes the first punter to be named All-CIAA since 1983 (Anthony Wicker) and just the second punter in school history. Collins led the conference in punting average (39.3). He had a long punt of 68 yards nearly tying the school record of 75 yards.
Dix (Merritt Island, Fla.) was named to the first team on offense and defense as a kick-returner and cornerback. He becomes just the first player in JCSU and CIAA history to be named first team all-conference on both sides of the ball for two consecutive years. Dix was ranked fifth in the nation in kick-off returns averaging 31.3 yards per return. He was also nationally ranked in the top 10 percent of all schools in passes defended (7) and interceptions (4). He also had 33 total tackles (21 solo, 12 assisted), one for a loss of a yard.
Franklin, the league's Offensive Rookie of the Year was also heralded with first team honors as a wide receiver. The rookie from Casselberry, Fla. led all CIAA receivers in receiving yards per game (73.7), reception yards (737) and came in a close second in receptions per game (3.9). His 99-yard pass play from Carlton Richardson against Saint Augustine's set a new school record for the longest pass play, a record that was set back in 1981.
Manns, a senior from Atlanta, Ga. was named to the first team as an offensive lineman. Manns is the first offensive big man to be named all conference since 2004.
Williams (Tampa, Fla.) is the leading tackler in the CIAA with 94 total tackles. He is averaging just under 10 tackles per game. He is ranked first in the conference in total tackles and is 38th overall in all of NCAA Division II. He was named first-team at the linebacker position.
All players were honored last night (November 8) at the annual CIAA Championship Football Banquet held at the Hilton Charlotte Center City. |
