Stephen Joyner, Jr. is in his second season as the top assistant coach for the 2007-08 season. He also serves as the assistant men's coach for the Golden Bulls.

After a brief stint with the University of North Carolina, Asheville, Joyner decided to return home to JCSU. Prior to UNC-Asheville, he spent the previous four seasons on the North Carolina Central University Women's Basketball coaching staff.

A 2001 graduate of JCSU with a degree in Business Administration, Joyner was one of the top point guards in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association during his Golden Bull basketball career. Playing under the tutelage of his father Stephen Joyner, Sr., a longtime head coach at JCSU, Joyner amassed 399 assists - an average of 4.53 per game - during his final three seasons (1998-2001). He placed third in the conference with 104 assists (3.85 apg) as a sophomore, fifth in the league with 120 assists (4.14 apg) as a junior, and topped the CIAA with 175 assists (5.47 apg) as a senior team captain. During his senior campaign, JCSU captured the 2001 CIAA Tournament Championship, won the South Atlantic Regional title, and advanced to the NCAA Division II "Elite Eight" in Bakersfield, Calif.

Joyner spent the 2001-02 season as an assistant men's basketball coach at Livingstone College under the guidance of his uncle, Ed Joyner, Sr. He has also served as an assistant men's basketball coach for the Charlotte Stars AAU team.
