Final Stats

Kyria Buford (Charlotte, N.C.) once again led all JCSU scorers aiding her team to a 64-42 victory over the visiting Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University. Based on the way the month of January has been going, JCSU should have won this game. After all, the team has alternated wins and losses in every game thus far since 2008 commenced.

Both JCSU and VUU went shot-for-shot to open the contest. However, it would not be long before the Lady Golden Bulls opened up a double-digit lead. By the end of the half, Smith led by a score of 28-15.

The Lady Golden Bulls were led by Buford's 19 points. Shemika Jones (Largo, Md.) and Miryame Diouf (Powder Springs, Ga.) contributed nine and eight points each in the victory.

Smith shot 42% from the field compared to just 25% for Virginia Union. Leading the charge for VUU was senior Katchona Johnson who had 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Johnson C. Smith now improves to 11-6 overall, 7-2 CIAA while Virginia Union drops to 0-15, 0-9 in league play.

Smith will now prepare to face the fierce eastern division leader, Bowie State University on Saturday, Jan. 26. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Brayboy Gymnasium.
