Johnson C. Smith Cruises to 74-53 Win Over Fayetteville State

Johnson C. Smith University tied for the western division's best record (6-2) with a 74-53 win over the visiting Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University. Senior center Rochelle Bodie (Raleigh, N.C.) had 13 points and seven rebounds. Those seven boards now put her at third all-time in JCSU women's basketball history, with 1,004 rebounds. JCSU outscored Fayetteville State 43-29 in the second half led by the efforts of Amber Stoney (Orlando, Fla.). Stoney was a monster from the field going 8-of-12 en route to 19 points and 10 rebounds. Smith shot an astounding 50% from the field, holding FSU to just 29%. Shemika Jones (Largo, Md.) rounded out the double-digit scorers and continued her all-around playing ways with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Jones is also inching away to 1,000 points. She is now just 27 points away. Leticia Dickson was the only Lady Bronco in double figures with 13 points and six rebounds. Passion Phillips, playing in front her hometown crowd had eight points in the loss. Johnson C. Smith completes their regular season conference schedule with a 18-8 overall record, 14-4 in the conference and 6-2 in the western division. Fayetteville State dropped to 15-11, 11-6 in league play and 3-4 in the division.
