Three Lady Golden Bulls Named All-CIAA

Sophomore Kyria Buford headlines a group of talented all-conference performers

Feb. 21, 2008

Three Lady Golden Bulls were recently named to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Basketball All-Conference team as voted on by the league's basketball coaches and sports information directors. Sophomore Kyria Buford as well as seniors Rochelle Bodie and Ashley Chase were named to the 2008 All-CIAA Women's Basketball Team.

Bodie, a 6-0 center from Raleigh, NC is 10th in the conference in rebounding, grabbing right at seven rebounds per game. Though seeing significantly less action this year due to a nagging injury, Bodie has six double figure scoring games and three double digit rebounding games. She recorded her 1,000th rebound vs. Fayetteville State University becoming the first JCSU player since Angela Hamilton (1989) to record 1,000 rebounds in four years.

After rebounding from a foot injury that sent her to the sidelines last year, senior Ashley Chase (Baltimore, Md.) has recovered fully and has been named All-CIAA. She helped lead her team to be number one in assists and assist/turnover ratio. She leads the conference in assists, dishing out 4.25 passes per game and is scoring just under seven points per game. Chase has seven double figure scoring games and one game in which she dished out double digit assists.

Kyria Buford immediately made her mark on the CIAA en route to being the third leading scorer in the conference (15.4 ppg). She is 9th in the league in rebounding averaging a little over seven rebounds per game and is connecting on 43% of her shots. She has scored in double figures in 19 of the 22 games played and led the team in scoring in 13 of those contests. She has five double-doubles including a monstrous 27 point, 15 rebound outing versus eastern division leader Bowie State University.

The young ladies will be honored at their annual tip-off banquet this Sunday, February 24, at the Westin Hotel in uptown Charlotte at 6:30 p.m.
