SoftballJCSU Softball Earns First Victories of Season, Down Shaw 12-4
March 19, 2008
On Tuesday evening at the Biddleville Park, Johnson C. Smith University (2-4) banged out 21 hits and stole 13 bases as the Lady Golden Bulls routed Shaw, 12-4 (5 inn.), and 9-6. Shaw remains winless on the season. In game one, freshman Ashley Williams (Temple Hills, Md.) went 2-for-3 while fellow rookie Kawehionapua Chan (Hawai'i Kai, Hawaii) went a perfect 2-for-2. Senior Nicole Villarreal (San Antonio, Tex.) struck out 6 batters and walked just one to secure the team's first victory of the season. JCSU did most of their damage in the first inning, cranking out 6 runs on just four hits. For the Lady Bears, Dominique Williams took matters into her own hands in the top of the 5th inning blasting a three-run home run with two outs, forcing the gold and blue to proceed to the bottom of the inning (11-4). JCSU did so easily as Asha Trim (Vallejo, Calif.) reached on an error and Robin Carter singled to right field scoring Trim and securing the victory. JCSU moves on to face the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine's College on Friday, Mar. 21. The first pitch will take place at 1 p.m. at Biddleville Park. |
