Final Stats

The Johnson C. Smith University softball team (2-8, 2-4CIAA) swept the Lady Tigers of St. Paul's College 10-9 and 13-0 in college softball action today at Biddleville Park. The wins are the first for the Lady Golden Bulls of the 2007 season and the first career victories for new head coach Jason Mai.

The Lady Golden Bulls came out a little sluggish in the first game only scoring runs in the first, third, fifth, and seventh innings. The game came down to the wire as SPC (3-7, 2-2CIAA) was up 9-7 going into the final half of the seventh inning. Senior Nikia Beachem started the inning off with a single (3-for-4 on the day). Fellow seniors Jennifer Rosado and Venessa Roy followed suit with singles of their own. After a sacrifice fly from senior Nicole Villarreal to advance the runners, freshman Nijah Braddox got a base hit and drove in the final run. The senior trio would all score to end the game at 10-9.

Game two was a totally different story as the gold and blue cranked out 11 hits scoring all 13 runs in the first two innings en route to the 13-0 shut out. The same three seniors all went 2-for-3 with Rosado driving in four runs.

"The girls have worked hard all season and I am just glad that it finally came together", remarked first year head coach Jason Mai. "We just have to carry this new found confidence in ourselves into the next few games."

When asked about his first win coach Mai replied: "I'm just glad it is out of the way."

JCSU will play the fourth of a five-game home stand on Saturday, March 24, 2007. They will host the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University at 1:00 pm at Biddleville Park.
