SoftballJohnson C. Smith Softball Defeats Claflin 6-3
March 24, 2008
The Johnson C. Smith University softball team extended their win streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of Claflin University at Biddleville Park. The Lady Golden Bulls won the first game 6-3 and prevailed to a 19-17 win in game two. Allycia Watanabe got the start in both games. In game one, she struck out five and didn't walk a single batter in seven innings of work. Though JCSU was held to just two hits, Claflin's hurler walked 14 batters, making it easy for the Golden Bulls to cross the plate and claim the victory. Claflin's Antonya Pharr was an offensive thorn in JCSU's side as she went two-for-two including a homerun. She barely missed a homerun at her first plate appearance. The ball hit the 200 sign but fell back into the field, making it a ground rule double. The loss drops Claflin to 8-24 overall while JCSU improves to 5-4. JCSU won't have much time to rest as they host Morris College tomorrow, March 25 at 3 p.m. The games will take place at Biddleville Park. |
