SoftballJCSU Softball Sweeps Livingstone 9-1 and 14-1

The Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University (10-12, 8-6 CIAA, 3-3 DIV) swept Livingstone College 9-1 and 14-1 in a softball doubleheader this afternoon at Biddleville Park. JCSU dominated the games from start to finish allowing them to advance to the CIAA Championships in Petersburg, Va (April 19-21).This is the third consecutive year that JCSU has made it to post-season play.
"I am very proud of the accomplishments of this team," said first year head coach Jason Mai. "We still have six regular-season games remaining and that's where our focus is right now."
Senior Venessa Roy was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate aiding her team to a 9-1 win in game one. The ladies used a four-run third and fifth inning to drop Livingstone to 5-11 on the season.
Game two saw the gold and blue crank out 15 hits crossing the plate 14 times en route to the 14-1 win. Similar to the first contest, the game ended with the eight-run mercy rule in the fifth inning. Roy also went 2-for-2 scoring three runs courtesy of a three-run home run in the second inning. Senior Nicole Villarreal and freshman Sabrina Cato both went 3-for-3, both driving in two runs each.
The Golden Bulls are on a four-game winning streak and will probably take on the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings at a date to be determined this week. The next home game will be against Virginia State University on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 1:00 pm.
