SoftballJCSU Softball Advances in Loser's Bracket

The Johnson C. Smith University softball team opened up the 2007 CIAA Softball Championship falling 19-4 to the Lady Trojans of Virginia State University. Senior Jennifer Rosado went 2-for-3 driving in two runs, while freshman Santana Smith went 2-for-3.
In their second game of the day, JCSU squeaked by Shaw University (16-15) in nine innings of play. The Bears issued 29 walks in this contest and JCSU who struggled offensively, were able to muster up 16 runs. With the win, JCSU was able to advance in the double elimination tournament via the loser's bracket.
JCSU will once again play Virginia State at 10:00 am on Friday, April 20, 2007 at the Petersburg Sports Complex. VSU lost to North Carolina Central 6-5 in 8 innings.
Seniors Torri Flenor and Jennifer Rosado were both named to the CIAA Softball Second-Team at center field and the catcher position respectively. JCSU's record now stands at 11-19. |
