Final Stats

The Johnson C. Smith University women’s tennis team won three singles matches and swept the doubles to earn the team’s first victory of the season, defeating Concord University 6-3. Led by the efforts of Cameron Chatman (Greensboro, N.C.) who won 6-1, 6-0 over Shirley Samuel at number one and teamed with Jae Hargett Minneapolis, Minn.) for an 8-1 win over Brittany Cook and Emily Fletcher, accounted for two points. Chatman has not lost a single match thus far at number one singles.

Other winners in singles were Tyra Breaux (Baltimore, Md.) , (6-1, 6-1) over Brooke Wilson at number five and Rolanda Sue (Charlotte, N.C.) who won by default at number six singles.

Melissa Shuler (Greenville, N.C.) and Brittany Laws (Rocky Mount, N.C.) won number two doubles and Breaux/Sue were awarded a forfeit at number three.

This match concluded the Golden Bulls’ fall season. JCSU will resume play on February 8, 2009 when the host UNC-Pembroke.
