Women's VolleyballSaint Augustine's Rallies to Beat JCSU in Volleyball Action 3-2

Johnson C. Smith University and Saint Augustine's College battled until the very end on senior day in Charlotte, N.C. The Lady Falcons came away with the win three games to two. JCSU won games one (30-22), and three (30-27) while SAC won games two (30-27), four (30-17), and five (15-13). Playing in their final match in Brayboy Gymnasium, Anika Pimentel, Venessa Roy, and Nicole Villarreal gave the crowd a great performance. The ladies were presented with photo plaques, flowers, balloons, an 8 x 10 action photo and the gymnasium was decorated with posters and signs! The Lady Falcons used a balanced offensive attack to complete the season sweep over JCSU. Four SAC players registered 10 or more kills led by Rochelle Henfield's 18 kills and 11 digs. She also served up four service aces. Brittany Watts had 16 kills and 12 digs. Shakira Carter contributed 14 while Stephony Newkirk chipped in 10 kills. Tieayrra Glover was a setting machine as she dished out 47 set assists in the victory. Smith was once again led by the twin towers of Ashley Young-Jones and Jasmine Oliver who had 14 and 12 kills respectively. Roy had 12 kills, seven kills, four service aces and three block solos. Villarreal had 15 digs in the match. SAC improves to 5-13 overall, 4-5CIAA, and 2-2 division while Smith drops 6-14, 2-8CIAA and 0-5 in the division. JCSU moves on to face Shaw on Friday, October 5, 2007 in a 6:00 p.m. matchup in Raleigh, N.C. |
