Women's VolleyballVolleyball Loses Five Set Heartbreaker to Salem College

The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker to the Salem College Spirits on Wednesday evening in Brayboy Gymnasium. The Spirits came out on top 23-25, 25-14, 25-21, 21-25, 15-10. JCSU (8-16, 4-7 CIAA) stormed out to a quick lead but Salem College (14-20) began to chip away at the Lady Golden Bull lead, getting to 23-21. However JCSU was able to close out the first set, 25-23. After losing set two 25-14, and set three 25-21, JCSU rallied to win set four 25-21 leading the Lady Golden Bulls and the Spiritis to square off for a fifth and decisive set. In set five, Salem College got out to a quick 8-3 lead. JCSU got three huge kills from Ashley Young-Jones but it was a case of too litte, too late and the Lady Golden Bulls lost 15-10. For Salem College, Christine Tillman and Katie Lineberger combined for 33 kills and Sara Maher had 39 assists. Meanwhile, The Lady Golden Bull hitters combined for 47 kills and Alexis Webb has 33 assists. Shawntanna Proctor and Jasmine Parker led the defense with 16 and 12 digs respectively. The Lady Golden Bulls return to action on Friday, Oct. 31 for their final match of the regular season against rival Livingstone College. Gametime is at 6:00 pm in Brayboy Gymnasium. |
