Riddick and Sumpter Named to CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic Team



Desirae Riddick was Named to the 2007 CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic First Team

Seniors Desirae Riddick and Brittany Sumpter added another accolade to their post-season awards...this time it came in the form of their accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the playing courts. Both Riddick and Sumpter were named to the 2007 CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic Team as voted on the league's Sports Information Director's Association.

Riddick, a senior majoring in Business Administration boasts a 3.72 grade point average. The Misawa, Japan native had a superb career in which she became the all-time kills leader in JCSU history after recording 1,320 kills in her career. She was named to the CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic first team as well as All-CIAA, All-Tournament, Daktronics All-Region Second Team and ESPN the Magazine's Academic All-District.

Sumpter was named to the second team for the second consecutive year Sumpter, who earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in May, was named to the CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic second team for the second consecutive year with a 3.52 grade point average. Sumpter is ranked third in scoring (15.6 ppg) and 10th in free-percentage (.715). Since joining the Lady Golden Bulls in the spring of 2005, she has scored in double figures in 36 of 44 games played and leads her team in scoring averaging 15.6 points per game. Sumpter was named All-CIAA and All-Tournament in her final season as a Lady Golden Bull.

Jennifer Lee, a rising senior on the women's tennis team was one of three honorable mention athletes.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at a CIAA institution, earned a minimum 3.20 overall grade point average, and played as a starter or important reserve in a CIAA sanctioned sport.
